Bible Study

The Bible is God's Word and the foundation of our faith. It is the completed revelation of God to man and is sufficient for equipping God's people (2 Tim 3:16-17; Heb 1:1-2; Jude 3). It is, therefore, imperative that believers read and understand what God has revealed to them in the scriptures. We encourage everyone to engage in prayerful, deliberate, and regular Bible study throughout the week. Then, on Sunday mornings at 9:45 we assemble together in small groups and engage in prayer, fellowship, and the study of God's Word. It is a time for spiritual nourishment, encouragement, and discipleship.

Lifeway materials are used to set the theme for biblical exposition. Groups are loosely defined by age ranging from 9 to senior adults. Children's church is offered during morning worship services for ages 4-8. A nursery is also provided for children under the age of 4. Of course, families may worship together at any time and are in no way required to split up upon arriving at church.

At Forest Heights Baptist Church we affirm the plenary inspiration, infallibility, inerrancy, and authority of Scripture. We encourage the use of the more formal translations for serious Bible study (e.g., NKJV, NASB, ESV, etc.). There are many helpful tools available to the student for Bible study, such as e-Sword, Logos, and BibleSoft. In addition, Bibles, commentaries, and other reference materials can be purchased online through Lifeway Christian Stores or at Athens' own The Carpenter's Shop.

You don't have to wait, though, to study God's Word, even if you don't have access to a Bible. You can visit MyStudyBible.com or Biblia.com and read the entire Bible in several versions. In addition, these sites offer word study tools, commentaries, dictionaries, and other study aids.
